The creators of Sphero, have designed a new small robot named Ollie that can zip across the floor at 14mph, hit ramps and do tricks, all controlled with a smartphone. The Ollie robot runs best on an open plane, speeding and doing tricks best when everything is flat. Robots controlled by your iPhone are expected to make the list of top Christmas toys for 2014.
Ollie can pull off ollies, do a quick spin in place, spin in place indefinitely, speed boost while driving (called “grabs”), jump around, pull off wheelies, or rocket across the room and turn on a dime before zipping off in a new direction. The Ollie app works with iOS, for iPhone or iPad, and provides directional control as well as gesture control.
Like the My Friend Cayla Internet Doll, kids tech gadgets – driven by phone apps, are at the top of the festive list for kids and the young at heart who are after the latest fun-filled games.
Ollie is available today for iOS and Android devices from gosphero.com for $99, with plans to sell the toy in stores starting September 15, with smartphone apps available for Android, iPhone and iPad.
