Hello Barbie Dreamhouse is a voice-activated smart home. Mattel’s new Wi-Fi enabled dollhouse allows kids to control the lights, music, elevator to other appliances – using voice commands. Similar to voice assistants like Siri or Amazon Alexa, the house responds to voice commands in order to take actions, like turning on lights that can be customized with various color schemes, or turning on the shower when it’s time for Barbie to get ready for school. Barbie’s new smart home and pink hoverboard drone are top Christmas toys for 2016.
Hello Barbie Dreamhouse is an IoT-enabled, app-connected mansion with embedded voice recognition technology. Similar to Hello Barbie, the Dream house is WiFi-enabled, has a mobile app, and uses voice recognition software to respond to the user’s commands.
Commands are issued with “Hello Dreamhouse”. You can tell the house to give Barbie a ride in the lift, ask it to turn the oven on and the lights react to on and off commands. Set the smart house up for party mode, with different lighting, and the stairs transforming into a slide. In addition to the voice-controlled features, the Hello Dreamhouse includes three pre-set modes of various lighting and music schemes, as well as a fourth that is controlled by a mobile app. The three pre-set house modes include, “hangout mode,” “dance party mode,” and “fun house mode.”
Embedded switches in the floor activate features in a room whenever Barbie is walked into it. Each room has a different effect — there are lights in the bedroom, a shower that can turn on in the bathroom, and a stove and oven that can come to life in the kitchen. The toy smart house even includes an elevator in here than can move on its own!
The Barbie Hello Dreamhouse will arrive in toy stores this fall with a $300 price tag.
